The Student

Working as a Hospitality Ambassador in Tennessee

A native of the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee, I have always known that one day I would break away from my landlocked comfort zone and explore the world around me. Now that I have entered college, that pull is stronger than ever. After months of mental and paperwork-related preparation, I have been accepted to study abroad for five months in the city of Utrecht, Netherlands at the University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool). The program, European Culture and Europeans Journalism, is an intensive international reporting program that includes an eight-week crash course in everything Europe, a field trip to Berlin and, eventually, a three-week individual reporting trip to a European city of our choosing. This program starts February 1, 2013, and ends June 30, 2013. All the preparations are beginning now, including a mass amount of paperwork and many financial issues. I figure that the best way to document this once-in-a-lifetime adventure is, of course, through the internet. I hope you enjoy this blog detailing my experiences!
